The project’s first iteration came to be when the creator of the series, Ben Hosler, finished his first binge watch of the hit TV sitcom The Office for the first time in 2018. He found himself with an empty pit in his soul, missing new content from the beloved mockumentary. The only solution he believed that would fill the void was a show of a similar vibe. Ben thought of a show idea that didn’t take place in a regular old office, but instead Area 51.

In high school, Ben attempted to make the series with his friends from drama club and family members as well. He only got as far as a couple clips lasting a few minutes because Covid 19 disrupted his plan. When Ben got to college he was determined since his freshman year to bring this project to life.

In the fall of 2024, Ben was finally able to make the pilot episode for Job 51 as his senior thesis project. It will have its official private premiere in May 2025 at the Zaki Gordon Cinematic Arts Center senior showcase before traveling on the festival circuit.
